Intrepid local resident saves the day

A true community network - a local resident helps clears snow off the Stobo mast.

Stobo Snow Thanks to Elliot Robertson, who braved the cold and deep snow to climb up to the Stobo mast this morning. Clearing snow off solar panels and antennae which restored the service.

As you can see from the photo, some of our dishes are susceptible to collecting snow in certain wind directions and when the snow is ‘sticky’. The snow then turns to ice - which then affects the ability to send and receive radio waves.

Most of the time, a combination of sunshine and gravity soon clear it, but during prolonged cold periods, the snow needs some assistance to vacate it’s new lodgings.

Elliot isn’t the only one that offers to help - we have a small group of intrepid volunteers that will often give some of their time to go for a ‘walk with a purpose’ to a mast. Could be just to check things, or in cases like this, to clear snow & ice.

Thank you to Elliot and all the others who contribute.
